Project Update

Well, ready or not, the project leaves for the playa-- tomorrow. It's actually recently gotten to the stages which are the most fun for me personally-- adding color, making real painting decisions-- but it's all quite rushed. We'll get it 'good enough for Burning Man'-- as far as we possibly can, and Tony will have a couple days on site where small adjustments can be made-- but we plan to take it the final 15% sometime after the 'event', as we plan to try to line up up a showing for it locally afterwards.

Full updates of the process-- over at Trout Salad-- Tony's Blog.

change of scene...

When the going gets tough-- the tough go away!
Things are really ramping up for the final push on the Burning Man Project, & I start teaching again on Tuesday, so I left for a quick 2-day getaway with friend Wendy. More photos will appear over at

    Getting there

We made a couple visual leaps forward, as the snake head & tail got painted, and more details are added to the circus-style lettering... last last call for drawings-- we hope to have 'em all in by Monday next week. We have the spinning wheel blank ready for paint tomorrow; actually we hope to have the gameboard section finished and removed on Friday-- on to the next parts.

    in the light of day

Here's the tree I worked on yesterday:
    as it looks today:
    previously:

Tony has noted the unfortunate coincidence of the strong shadow line in the tree's crotch with the strong line of the horizon. And I thought noone would notice. This will probably have to change...

    Hey! I painted!

Today, for the first day since my surgery, I worked on one of those tree paintings I began back when... think I made some good headway. ('Headway'-- where does that come from-- sailing?) I'll shoot a photo tomorrow when it's light.

In the meantime, he'd probably say he's not ready, but check out the newly minted blog of artist friend Bob:

    the 'Girl' gets underway

Here you can see both the 'Girl' & 'Boy' panels underway-- and see how much space they're taking up on my side of the studio. I'm considering launching a series of Very Small Paintings, just so I don't lose my mind for lack of true painting. Check out these listings of 'Painting-a-day' projects
